Presentations
The oral presentations required at the end of the fall and winter terms serve a number of purposes:
- Inform other senior design teams of your project and the progress you are making.
- Provide an opportunity for you to distill the important components from your project and describe them in a clear and concise manner.
- Prepare to present your project to the public.
Be sure to plan and rehearse each of your team presentations, so that you can clearly communicate what your team has accomplished and how each team member has contributed to the effort. Demonstrations of your product or system are encouraged. Ideally you will find a time to rehearse in the room of the presentation so that you can ensure that any devices that need to be connected to the projector do so smoothly.
Fall Quarter
The primary purpose of this presentation is to inform others of your project goals and describe your progress to date. The presentation should clearly describe:
- the goal and scope of the project
- why your project is important (demonstrate a need/demand for it)
- results of your technology investigation (what technology did you choose and why)
- summary of work completed prior to the just ended sprint
- sprint review of just ended sprint
- a demonstration of current functionality
- list of high priority PBIs likely to be completed in the next two or three sprints
Winter Quarter
The primary purpose of this presentation is to inform others of your progress to date. The presentation should clearly describe:
- a very brief summary of the goal and scope of the project
- overview of completed functionality (preferrably with demo)
- discussion of one or two challenges and how you dealt with them and/or an interesting technology that you've made good use of in your project
- list of high priority PBIs likely to be completed in the next two or three sprints
- discussion of improvements to your software process
Spring Quarter
This term you will create two presentations:
Non-technical
This presentation has multiple audiences:
- General Public
- Family Members
- Friends
- Prospective Students
The presentation should be no more than three minutes and captivate the interest of the audience. It should be visually appealing and include a robust demonstration. Focus on the problem that needed to be solved and how your project addressed it.
Technical
The primary purpose of this presentation is to provide a technical overview of your project. The primary audience is future senior design students, faculty, industrial advisory committee members, and potential employers. The presentation should be no more than 17 minutes and may assume that the viewer has just watched the three minute video prior to viewing this presentation. The presentation should focus on key technical challenges and how they were overcome, software process improvements, and significant things that were learned. If you have time, a minute of two dedicated to advice for future senior design students could be useful.
Evaluation
Your presentation will be evaluated based on the following components:
- Organization
- Content
- Knowledge
- Collaboration
- Delivery
